In addition to external productions, Lunario del Auditorio Nacional has created its own cycles to promote different artistic expressions and emerging music as well as to rescue popular value and identity experiences, while including appealing productions for young audiences.
These are some of our resident projects:
Lunario Big Band Fest
A project that rescues the tradition of the great jazz orchestras that reached their splendor in the 1940s. The most outstanding contemporary ensembles in Mexico have performed at this festival and, in turn, have surprised us with great soloists and national and international guests.
Lunario Dance Hall Nights
To the rhythm of the great dance halls such as the Salón Los Ángeles, the California Dancing Club or Salón México, Lunario del Auditorio Nacional has opened its own dance floor with renowned groups such as La Sonora Dinamita or Pepe Arévalo y sus Mulatos, among others.
Lunario Kids
To offer diverse and worthwhile performing arts productions for young audiences, Lunario del Auditorio Nacional has hosted music, theater, dance and clown performances by companies and artists such as: Arpegio Producciones, La Trouppe, Seña y Verbo, Triciclo Rojo, Mariana Mallol and Gaby Vega, among others.
In 2010 it opened its doors to seasons such as the Opera Season for kids. Since then, the venue has been a pioneer in offering educational performances that contribute to the formation of young audiences, bringing them closer to genres such as jazz by featuring children's bands as part of the Lunario Big Band Fest.
Lunario Cabaret
2016 saw the birth of a series of performances aimed towards recovering the experience of Mexico's nightclubs. Cabaret Lunario has presented acclaimed performers such as Angélica María, Guadalupe Pineda, Lucía Méndez, Dulce, María del Sol, Rocío Banquells, Yoshio and Jorge Muñiz.
National Theatre Live
Since 2009, Lunario del Auditorio Nacional’s screen has featured the National Theatre Live program, presented by England’s National Theatre. This initiative of theatrical promotion with digital resources spans to over 330 theaters and performing arts centers in 65 countries.
Lunario del Auditorio Nacional was the first Spanish-speaking stage to join the worldwide community of NT Live audiences. To date, more than 70 productions have been screened at the Mexican venue, including classic theater and contemporary works.
María Grever Scholarship
This economic and artistic stimulus carries the name of the so-called Madonna of Song, prodigious creator of songs such as "Bésame mucho" and "Júrame". This grant is awarded every year to young creators of Mexican popular music. Awardees meet periodically at Lunario del Auditorio Nacional to enrich their creative process. This program has produced composers such as El David Aguilar, Madame Récamier, David Haro, Miguel Inzunza, La Isla Centeno (María Centeno and Luis Miguel de la Isla) and Héctor Filio, among many other singer-songwriters.
